LA CROSSE – Taxes in Wisconsin could be on the rise. The pandemic has left many strapped for cash, including local governments. Governor Evers’ is proposing in his biennial budget, giving counties and municipalities the ability to raise their local sales tax by 0.5% and control over how they spend it. One local official supports the proposal.
A representative from Wisconsin Manufacturers & Commerce says, families can’t afford the extra tax.
“It comes at a time when Wisconsin families have been struggling through the worst economic downturn in a generation,” said Nick Novak, of Wisconsin Manufacturers & Commerce.
